Situated in the charming town of Cullinan, the Cullinan Diamond Mine is the third richest diamond mine in the world. The mine is known for the discovery of the largest rough gem-quality diamond ever found, the 3106 carat Cullinan diamond. Named after Sir Thomas Cullinan who owned the mine, the diamond was cut into three parts and presented to King Edward VII. The three parts were known as the Great Star of Africa or the Cullinan I, the Lesser Star of Africa, and the third part became part of the British Crown Jewels which is now on display in the Tower of London.

Tours to the mine are available and take you right into the mine shaft. The tours generally last two hours and teach visitors about the procedures used to extract diamonds and the rich history of the mine. After the tour is complete you can head to the show room to look at the finished products.
